From Place to Place for Suicide Prevention

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. With such a widespread focus, it comes as no surprise that this is one of our busiest months of the year.

By the time September ends, our team will have provided around 30 digital and in-person education sessions. We will have also attended a total of 6 events including, a Rock N Roll themed 5k, Three Bingo Nights, a Sunset Mocktail Reception, Ride it Out Cruise, and a National Music Festival.

While it is a busy time for our small team, it is also one of our favorite times of the year. It provides us with the opportunity to meet people and have those valuable in-person interactions.

While the public sees a large-scale fundraiser or community event, they are usually the result of an encounter with one person.

Someone who may have lost a loved one to suicide or struggled with their own mental health will find the importance of starting the conversation in their community. From there, they then create the space to break down those stigmas, talk about mental health and provide resources.

Oftentimes, we think that we have to be a large organization or have a lot of money to make an impact in suicide prevention. These small, community-led events are a reminder that none of these things are true. All it takes is a single person with a passion for suicide prevention.

Thirty days, hundreds of miles, three states, and an impact that could not be quantified if we tried. We are so honored for the chance to get to do what we do. What place will you catch us next?
