The inspiration behind the art work, for Mad West at the United Center, was to highlight an important subject matter that hits close to home for many people. I chose to support and to have all proceeds from the art raffle go towards the essential nonprofit organization: Hope For The Day.
Hope For The Day focuses on suicide prevention and by providing outreach and mental health education. I am thankful that Dark Matter Coffee and the United Center allowed an artist like me, not only to showcase my art in their place of business, but also to let me choose this organization on my own and to bring this event to life. The art I created hopefully raises Hope For The Day's specific mission in a light and animated way. I aimed to find a balance of my own artistic style, a touch of comic weirdness, an ode to Chicago and the United Center with a message I find extremely crucial... that It's Ok Not To Be Ok. - LAUREN ASTA
